Pelinobius muticus (King Baboon) 

Old Word Terrestrial Tarantula

Not a beginner species

 

Comments: 

  • This species is definitely for the advanced keeper.

  • This is a colorful spider and has back bowlegs.

  • No ones collection is complete without owning one of these tarantulas.

  • A must have species. 

Temp/humidity: 

  • Ideal temperature between 24 and 29°C and humidity between 60-70%.

Enclosure: 

  • This is an obligate burrower, therefore an adult needs 20cm of substrate or more to burrow.

Retreat/Hide: 

  • This species doesn't need a hide, it will make its own burrow. 

Food Consumption: 

  • Feed slings twice a week.

  • Feed adults once a week.

  • The food size should be the size of the carapace.

  • This species is a good eater. 

Water Requirements: 

  • Keep a water dish in the tank.

  • Keep the substrate in the terrarium dry.

  • Every four months, wet one side of the substrate, than allow it to dry out.

Growth Rate: 

  • The growth rate of this specie is slow.

  • Adult legspan 20cm

Temperament: 

  • Because of their defensive nature, they aren't the best species to handle.

  • If approached they will usually go into a threat posture and stridulate.

  • This tarantula will go on the offense.
